Meet the Artist Peter Wileman
Saturday 12pm - 4pm 25th June 2011
7 Gillygate York YO31 7EA
We are delighted to announce
that Award winning artist Peter Wileman will be visiting our
York gallery to unveil his new collection of fine art originals.
You are warmly welcome to meet Peter at the Exhibition on Saturday
25th June, from 12pm-4pm. Wine and refreshments will be served
throughout the day.
Peter Wileman has worked in the
field of art and design for over 40 years. Painting since childhood,
after leaving school he worked for the top publishing company,
Hallmark Cards studying lettering and design. He then became
the art editor of a number of IPC magazines. With a natural
talent for painting and considerable experience in art and design,
he decided to work freelance to allow himself the freedom to
develop his own work. His style is bold and vigorous, both in
the use of colour and the handling of paint, as he explores
the effects of light on his subject. Seeking atmosphere through
light and colour, he works in varying degrees of abstraction.
He has exhibited widely including mixed exhibitions at the Royal
Society of Marine Artists, the New English Art Club and was
elected to full membership of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters
in 2001, of which he is now President.
Peter's work has been recognised with various awards:
The Frank Herring award in 2000
The Cornelissen & Son Award in 2003 for outstanding work.
The Clerc Fowle' gold medal in 2006 for the most outstanding
group of paintings.
Awarded the DAS Prize at the Mall Galleries, London in 2007
for a work of distinction.
In 2008 was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts (FRSA)
In 2010 was elected an Associate of The Royal Society of Marine
Artists
Peter's paintings can be found in private collections worldwide
and have been shown on television.

Painting Light in Oils
By Peter Wileman
Peter Wileman is one of the most dynamic oil
painters in the UK today and is currently President of the Royal
Institute of Oil Painters. In Painting Light in Oils he demonstrates
how to create atmospheric landscapes in oils with stunning effects.
Light is what motivates so many painters. It excites the eye
and radiates an energy that transforms an otherwise ordinary
scene into something rather special. In his first book, Peter
Wileman shows how he gets inspiration for his exciting landscapes
and seascapes, working both on location and in the studio.
