Isabeau Doucet
Isabeau Doucet is a painter currently working in London and
studying at Goldsmiths College.
She completed an honours degree in Liberal Arts and a minor
in Painting and Drawing at Concordia University in Montreal
where she received the Cecil Buller and John J.A. Murphy Scholarship
in Drawing. Her main training was through the mentorship of
Montreal-based painters Fabian Jean and Paul Fenniak, for whom
she regularly models. In 2006, she spent two months studying
with the eccentric Painter Odd Nerdrum at his farm in Norway,
and in the summer of 2008, did a four month long residency at
his Paris studio.
Isabeau's background is in film, storytelling and activism.
Her experience with and interest in the interview process feeds
into her fascination with the human figure, particularly the
portrait. Her love of Samuel Beckett lead her to explore similar
themes in a series of oil Crotchety Landscapes, exhibited at
Mill Street Studios in Dublin, and in a series of Egg Tempera
portraits called Judith: My Mother's Mother, exhibited at the
Belgo in Montreal.
